This man guides you on this expanded and descriptive work in a manner that holds you to the story but, also elegantly, uses the English language to display a movie within your mind.This book takes you from one lockup to another in a manner that will not leave you disappointed. You follow “Jimmy” from the beginning of the interview to the end as he tells the story of an ex-con coming full circle back to the prison he came from and the journey he survived along the way.
He’ll explain his thinking or the lack of therewith, sometime causing his own demise with no help from anybody.
This publication “is” very well written with a good sometimes comical tale to match.

another great book brought to me by watching I (Almost) Got Away With It. I'm hopeful that Maxwell turns his life around when he gets out. If not, at least maybe there'll be a sequel!
Everyone may not agree with my 5 Star rating. But for myself, once I started reading, I was unable to put it down. My "I'm just going to finish this chapter," turned into "one more chapter," then another and another. Before I knew it, the sun was up and I had spent the entire night reading.
Was a great book .. Saw Jimmy on Lock up and had to read !!!!! It's a must read ❤️I personally felt as if I could see him in this book !!
Just got the book yesterday and stayed up WAY too late reading it. I'm not all the way finished yet but I can say, being and avid reader my entire life this book is very well written and a true page turner. Having lived a colorful life myself in Oklahoma and having knowledge of certain events I believe the book to be factual and the story is told without pretense. My $ was well spent. I will be buying some as gifts too.
This is by far one of the most exciting reads I have had. As an avid reader of true crime, you get the side of the detectives on the case. However, for once, the roles are reversed and we get a glimpse into the mind of an Outlaw. Jimmy takes you on a roller coaster of a ride in both emotions and creativity. This book is definitely interesting, to say the least, and will leave you disappointed because it ended. Money well spent. I look forward to the next book.
American Outlaw was an amazing read! I could not put it down! This book gave me a glimpse into a world I never knew existed and Maxwell’s life story in and out of the system was amazingly entertaining and enlightening as to one man’s experience in a life involving the systems and all the personalities experienced around it. Maxwell’s “good guy” approach though being a “bad guy” will keep you hooked to each chapter. You can’t help but like Jimmy! Ever since seeing him on MSNBC’s Lockup series I’ve been hooked on his particular personality and experience. I do not think you’ll get a better view of the prison world in and out than from his testimony contained in this book. Great book!!!
Mr. Maxwell really holds the reader's attention. It's written like a novel yet all the while that I was reading it I had to reflect on the fact that the accounts contained in the book are actually true! I was saddened by the fact that Mr. Maxwell made some very unwise decisions that he has had to pay dearly for. He has an above level of intelligence and I was very impressed by his ability to adapt quickly to situations and improvise when necessary to survive. I do hope and pray for his eventual release. Hopefully he will be able to enjoy a few years of freedom,
